India successfully tested a new anti-submarine weapon, which claims to be able to strike submarines from 600 kilometers away

According to a report on the CNN website on October 7, India said it had successfully tested a missile equipped with a torpedo, which could theoretically strike an enemy submarine 400 miles (about 643 kilometers) away.

According to reports, the Indian Ministry of Defense stated in a statement that this weapon is called the SMART system (supersonic missile-assisted torpedo launch system), which was tested on October 5 from Wheeler Island near the coast of Orissa, India. Shoot.

The Ministry of Defense of India stated: "This launch and demonstration is of great significance to the establishment of anti-submarine warfare capabilities." "All mission objectives, including missile flight, range and height, ammunition separation, and torpedo release, have been perfectly achieved."

Indian Defense Minister Singh said on social media: "This is a major technological breakthrough in India's anti-submarine warfare capabilities."

According to a report from the Indian Defense Industry Department, this missile is equipped with an electrically-driven torpedo. Its warhead weighs 50 kilograms and has a range of about 20 kilometers. By using missile boosters, the range of this weapon has been expanded to 400 miles (about 643 kilometers). ) Above, the flight speed reaches Mach 3.

Reports say that countries including Russia, the United States, and Japan all have missiles or rockets that can carry light torpedoes, but they have never reported that they can reach the range of India.

India has been strengthening its anti-submarine warfare capabilities in recent years and has purchased the most advanced anti-submarine fighters, such as the US P-8A anti-submarine patrol aircraft and MR-60R "Seahawk" anti-submarine helicopters. These fighters can detect enemy submarines at long distances. And the information is transmitted back to the Indian warship, which greatly increases the combat range of the Indian warship.

Recently, India has frequently conducted test launches of new missile weapons. According to the "Hindustan Times" report, in the past month, India has conducted 4 new missile weapon test launches: on September 7 it carried out a test launch of a hypersonic technology verification aircraft; on September 30 it carried out an extended range version. The BrahMos missile was tested; the Shaurya strategic missile was tested on October 3; and the new anti-submarine missile was tested on October 5.

The Hindustan Times also reported that the Indian government recently approved the deployment of the Shaurya surface-to-surface missile with a range of 700 kilometers, and the K-5 submarine-launched ballistic missile with a range of 5000 kilometers. Research and development have also made progress.

The Shaurya missile is a land-based version of India’s BA-05 submarine-launched missile, equipped with a warhead weighing about 160 kilograms. This missile will soon be deployed to a designated location in the Indian Strategic Command. According to the report, some analysts believe that India's intensive testing and deployment of new missile weapons at a time when the Sino-Indian border tensions are tense have clearly conveyed the Indian government's intention that it will not make concessions in its relations with neighboring countries.
